Extreme Precipitation Events 2 Days Rainfall Totals Above Extreme Threshold 1960-2100, Morro Bay National Estuary Program
The model also predicts changes in intensity of extreme precipitation events. The return level is the estimated amount of precipitation that would be expected to be exceeded once every return period (20 years for this analysis). Results indicate by mid-century, a 20-year event would average 9.59 inches of rain, and by the late-century, a 20-year event would average 12.38 inches of rain. Historically, the 20-year event rain total was more like 8 inches of rain. The analysis used the more extreme emissions scenario RCP 8.5 (emissions continue to rise strongly though 2050 and plateau around 2100).
